This catastrophic incident is the latest in a series of tragic accidents that have plagued the Ugwu Onyeama area, earning it a notorious reputation as a hotspot for motor accidents. The frequency of these incidents is alarming, with multiple accidents occurring in the same location, resulting in the loss of many lives and destruction of property.
The root cause of these accidents can be attributed to the sloppy and sharp bending portion of the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway, which poses a significant risk to motorists. Ugwu Onyema and tragic accident is 5 and 6 as its now becoming a monthly occurrence, late last year it was multiple accident which claimed life of over 20 people and destruction of vehicles and this present fuel tanker accident.
Most worrisome is that knowing fully well that Ugwu Onyema is a sloppy sharp bending portion of Onitsha- Enugu Expressway and yet the soldiers and other security will station themselves on that exact sharp accident prone corner to slow down and park over 100 vehicles on that Expressway and when these heavy duty vehicles coming down from 9th Mile to Enugu got distressed and as the tanker accelerates down in high speed then the driver would have no other option than to ram into the security personnel caused holdup and result like this is what will happen which had caused many life before now and yet it continues unabated and government both at the federal and state are yet to address this challenge especially at Ugwu Onyema and elsewhere within the country.
I pray for the soul of all those who lost their life in this excruciating ghastly accident and extend my condolences to their individual families while been apprehensive that government will addressthis vy finding a lasting solitution to curb incessant motor accident at Ugwu Onyeama portion of Onitsha- Enugu Expressway in Enugu state, Nigeria.
