KIDNAPPING EPIDEMIC CONTINUES UNABATED: GUNMEN ABDUCT MEDICAL DOCTOR IN ANAMBRA STATE

In a brazen and disturbing incident, yet-to-be-identified gunmen have kidnapped a medical doctor working with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Anambra State. This latest kidnapping incident comes barely 72 hours after the launch of the newly-created security force, Agụnechemba (popularly known as Operation Udo Ga-Achị), in the state by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The victim, a neurosurgeon identified as Dr. Collinus Onuigbo, was reportedly kidnapped in the late hours of Tuesday in front of his residence, just a few meters away from the Teaching Hospital. According to sources, the victim’s family members have been left restless and gripped by tension since the incident, and have been making frantic efforts to secure his safe release.

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident, with the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stating that the Command is working tirelessly to rescue the victim. “Yes, I’m aware of the kidnap. We have already mobilized for the rescue of the doctor. The commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has given orders for this, and men of the Command are already on the matter, working with clues, to rescue him,” SP Ikenga said.

This latest kidnapping incident has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the state’s security measures, despite the recent launch of Operation Udo Ga-Achị. The people of Anambra State are calling on the government to intensify efforts to combat crime and ensure the safe release of Dr. Onuigbo.

As the search for Dr. Onuigbo continues, the medical community and the people of Anambra State remain on edge, hoping for his safe return. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between the government, security agencies, and the public to combat the scourge of kidnapping and crime in the state.
