This statement did more than affirm his political alignment; it unveiled a growing movement among grassroots political leaders and influencers in Anambra who are rallying behind Ukachukwu’s candidacy, viewing it as a turning point for the state.

Dr Enemali is no political lightweight. A native of Nzam, Anambra West L.G.A, he rose through the ranks of public service with a reputation for youth development, innovation, and integrity. In his time as Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy under Governor Willie Obiano, he was credited with initiating several youth-targeted programs including the “One Youth One Skill” initiative, which provided thousands of Anambra youths with employable skills and start-up capital.

Later, as Commissioner for Lands, he was instrumental in sanitizing the state’s land records and led a digital transformation that increased transparency and efficiency in land allocation and documentation.

Enemali’s defection to the APC did not happen in isolation. Sources close to the former commissioner suggest that his decision was born out of months of consultations with community stakeholders, youth leaders, clergy, and political analysts. For him, it wasn’t just about aligning with a winning team but about aligning with a movement grounded in vision, service, and divine purpose.

During his address at the well-attended event in Nzam, Enemali spoke passionately about the person of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu. “We are not just looking for a politician. We are looking for a governor with vision, experience, and the fear of God. Ukachukwu embodies these qualities,” he said to resounding applause.

Ukachukwu, a business magnate and philanthropist, is no stranger to public service. A former member of the House of Representatives, he has made several attempts at the Anambra governorship seat under various platforms but is now widely seen as a frontrunner in the upcoming election, especially with the backing of key political figures like Enemali.

Enemali praised Ukachukwu’s unwavering commitment to service, his developmental vision for the state, and his moral compass, which he described as rare in today’s political climate. “The fear of God is not a campaign slogan for Ukachukwu. It is his way of life. He listens, he prays, he leads. That is what Anambra needs,” he emphasized.

The defection ceremony was a display of political strength and coordination. at Enemali’s country home and attracted several high-ranking party members, including the APC Anambra West LGA Chairman,  Ward Chairman, youth leader, woman leader, and other members.

Barrister Peter Mmadubueze, a senior APC leader in Anambra West, welcomed Enemali warmly, describing his entry into the party as “a divine reinforcement.” He remarked, “When a man of this calibre and credibility chooses to pitch his tent with us, it tells you that the APC is not just growing in number but in quality. Dr Enemali brings ideas, energy, and people. We are lucky to have him.”

Throughout his speech, Enemali’s emphasis on spirituality was unmistakable. He called on Anambra people to prioritize integrity, character, and fear of God in choosing their leaders.

“Politics without God is politics without direction,” he said. “We cannot continue to vote for people simply because they have money. Money has failed us before. What we need now is vision guided by God.”

He urged clerics, traditional leaders, and community influencers to resist the temptation of selling out their conscience for temporary gains. “As Christians and ndi Anambra, we must ask ourselves: Is this the kind of leader Jesus would endorse? Ukachukwu is a God-fearing man, and I can say that without blinking,” he added.

This moral framing of politics seems to be resonating with many citizens disillusioned by years of political betrayal, failed promises, and elite capture of public wealth.

Dr Enemali’s defection is already altering the political equilibrium in Anambra West. A zone previously considered a APGA stronghold is now tilting toward the APC, thanks to his influence.

According to Chief Ignatius, a political analyst based in Otuocha, “What Enemali did today is not just personal; it is structural. He has dismantled the old networks and is creating a new base for the APC. This is the beginning of a grassroots hurricane that could sweep through all of Anambra North.”

Already, there are whispers that more high-profile defections are underway, as politicians scramble to reposition themselves ahead of what is predicted to be one of the most hotly contested governorship elections in the state’s history.

As the countdown to the 2025 gubernatorial election begins, it is becoming increasingly clear that the APC, under Ukachukwu’s candidacy and with allies like Enemali, is crafting a campaign based not only on structure and resources but on message and meaning.

Enemali’s narrative—centering God, development, and youth—is fast gaining traction among a populace desperate for genuine leadership. His track record of public service, now coupled with a renewed political direction, is making waves.

Political observers agree that the partnership between Ukachukwu and Enemali could become one of the most transformative alliances in the political history of Anambra, especially if backed by sustained grassroots mobilisation and principled messaging.

Dr Bonaventure Enemali’s defection to the All Progressives Congress and his open endorsement of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu marks a watershed moment in Anambra’s political history. It is not merely the story of one man changing parties; it is the story of one man choosing purpose over politics, and faith over fear.

By boldly stating that he joined APC to mobilise for Ukachukwu because he is “a God-fearing man,” Enemali has thrown down a moral gauntlet in an arena often clouded by money politics and power games. It remains to be seen how this declaration and movement will influence the broader electoral landscape in 2025.

But if the scenes in Nzam are anything to go by, a new political chapter is being written—one where character counts, God leads, and the people follow with hope in their hearts.
