In a bold operation, the Anambra State Police Command raided a brothel in Awka, Anambra State, rescuing nine sex workers and arresting the proprietor. The victims, aged between 15 and 23 years, were lured from various states, including Ebonyi, Enugu, Akwa-Ibom, and Rivers, with promises of employment to support their families financially .

According to Police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the raid was conducted following a tip-off from the Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare. The proprietor of the brothel has been arrested, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department Awka for comprehensive investigation .

The Rescue Operation

The police operatives stormed the brothel on June 19, rescuing the nine sex workers and arresting the proprietor. Further investigations revealed that the victims were enticed into prostitution with promises of employment, and were subsequently forced into sex work.
