Ashawo Crooner Steals the Show: Flavour’s Unbreakable Bond with Nigeria’s Elite Women
Arunma Oteh had her 60th birthday yesterday in London.
Oteh, as we know her, is a Nigerian economist who was the former Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Nigeria.
She later joined the World Bank after her stint in Nigeria was over.
When I saw the party clips from Instagram, I told myself, I know if Madam Oteh were to invite an artiste to perform at this party, it must be the Ashawo crooner, Flavour Nabania, and I did not watch too many video clips to see the video of Flavour doing his thing, whining his waist, and getting the crowd in that party in London rocking to his music.
And it has been a pattern. I don’t need to be an Aristotle to know that Flavour has a connection and appeal with older successful rich Nigerian women.
They love him, and he loves them too, as no other living Nigerian musician has this connection with this demographic except Flavour.
And so many examples abound:
The whole world watched in awe last year when a woman of God, Pastor Siju Iluyomade, had to temporarily forget her salvation to shake her waist to Flavour’s Ashawo songs during her own celebrated 60th birthday bash last year.
It was the first time I was seeing a pastor shaking her waist to Flavour’s ashawo song.
Apparently, the allure for Flavour was so strong that our woman of God had to temporarily damn her calling just to enjoy the things of the flesh.
Baba Adeboye, who did not understand what a secular musician was doing on the birthday of his anointed pastor, had to come down heavily on the couple by suspending them from the RCCG church, but what Adeboye did not understand is that Flavour’s pull on this class of women, older but very successful and rich , is strong, so they are ready to throw everything, including the kitchen sink, to have Flavour perform at their event.
They can sacrifice anything to see him perform at their event; this includes temporarily sacrificing their calling and salvation.
The other time, I saw one big Lagos woman and finance expert, Aisha, who does not understand Igbo, being serenaded on her 60th birthday party by the same Flavour.
Aisha is not Igbo; she is from a conservative culture and works in a conservative finance industry, just like Otteh, but still had to pull all the strings to have Flavour perform at her event.
That is the power and magnetic pull Flavour wields on this demographic.
It is beautiful to watch, and as long as we have older successful rich women in Nigeria
Flavour is made for life, as he will never go hungry or broke.
Flavour sings a lot of heart melting songs that celebrates women
From Nwunye Odogwu to Virtuous women.
However some of his songs are opposite.
These older successful women might not agree with all his lyrics, especially the diabolical one that says
“Ara dara ada adago.”
Flavour says a lot of stupid, provocative things that demean women. But for these older successful women, it does not matter.
They love him like that in spite of his flaws.
That is why, when the MD of Fidelity Bank, Nneka, had her 60th birthday party in Lagos last year,
Your guess is as good as mine who was the guest artist at the event.
A reminder that when Nigerian women loves you, they are ready to overlook your flaws.
Ijele Umunze! My brother, You are doing well.
