“Chidimma’s success is a poignant reminder that rejection can fuel determination,” said Senator Ben Murray Bruce. “Her achievement inspires a generation of young Nigerians to turn setbacks into successes.”

Adetshina’s remarkable story underscores the importance of perseverance and turning rejection into motivation. South Africa’s oversight proved costly, as they failed to make the top 30, while Chidimma excelled on the world stage.

One of the biggest propellants of success is rejection. When you are rejected and talked down on by those whom you should have naturally looked up to for encouragement, support and guidance, you would have to choose between one of two options; to make them happy by failing or prove them wrong and succeed.

This is one of the things I tell younger people, especially, when I was a classroom teacher and did take time out to do some motivational talks as a very young person.

Today in Mexico, Chidimma Adetshina proved this time-tested success nugget true by emerging the first runner-up at the Miss Universe pageant.

Chidimma had grown up to accept South Africa as her home and never kept anything away in her devotion to that country, but when the time came for her to be supported in achieving her dreams of becoming a beauty queen, South Africans remembered her roots and turned her away. Thanks to Senator Ben Murray Bruce and his firm, Chidimma was given a shoulder to lean on as she was welcomed back to the country of her parents and allowed to compete. Let’s not forget to give some credits to that Bayelsan showbiz promoter and owner of Silverbird conglomerate.

She didn’t only compete well, she also won, and became Miss Universe Nigeria. She went all the way to the world stage, and only missed the tiara by the whiskers.

Guess what! The South Africans didn’t eventually get a suitable replacement for her. That country didn’t even make it to the shortlist of 30, but Chidimma didn’t only make it all the way down to the finale, but just got a few points less than the Dane who got the tiara eventually.

I tell you, vengeance is sweet, but serve it with success. Don’t go about crying and complaining about being hated, misunderstood, rejected or even maligned by those you had nothing for, but love. Go ahead, roll up your sleeves, fight, work, win, and they would have got your pound of flesh and made the world a better place, by teaching them that “the rejected stone could be the chief corner stone”.

Congratulations Chi-Chi nwanne anyi.

I cried throughout the night as I watched this angel overcome all obstacles to achieve her dreams. Her success has been celebrated as a moment of pride for Nigeria. The competition, held in El Salvador, featured 130 delegates from around the world, and she excelled among them.

Her strong performance showcased her poise, intelligence, and advocacy for social causes, earning her global recognition.

Chidimma Adetshina, who has a background in law, previously faced controversy related to her dual heritage. Before representing Nigeria, she encountered backlash in South Africa when she was a finalist in their national pageant. Despite the challenges, she embraced her Nigerian roots and represented her country admirably on the international stage.

Nigeria’s Chidimma Adetshina was named 1st runner-up, followed by María Fernanda Beltran from Mexico, Suchata Chuangsri from Thailand, and Ileana Márquez from Venezuela.

When she was listed in the top 30, I exclaimed, “God, you’re simply not a man!” Then she made the top 12, the top 5, and when she stood on stage alongside the representative from Denmark, I realized that only God can make a man a King.

Chidimma stood for Africa, and the world rallied behind her. I’ve never seen such incredible support for this remarkable individual. She made Nigeria proud; she made Africa proud.

After withdrawing from her country of birth due to racism, she competed against 130 women from across the globe and became one of only two who mattered.

The victory marked Denmark’s first-ever win, while Chidimma Adetshina made history as the first Nigerian to become 1st runner-up.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet our 1st runner-up, Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, Chidimma Adetshina!

I will love you forever, ChiChi. Your story resonates with many of us. When people feel unworthy of a particular position, that is when God shows them that He is the true Kingmaker.

Congratulations, Chidimma! You fought so hard, and I’m sending you all my love and support as you move forward. May the Universe honour you as long as you live.
