Girlfriend” Allegedly P0isons Boyfriend, Stepson To D€ath In Abakaliki (Photos)
Abakaliki, Ebonyi State – A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday, April 25, 2025, at Ebebe Junction, Abakaliki, where a middle-aged man, identified as “Uncle Light,” and his stepson, Miracle, allegedly died from food poisoning.
According to local residents, the man had been living with a woman who reportedly left her previous marriage last year. Neighbors recounted that the woman departed early in the morning with her baby, leaving behind the man and his son, who were later found unconscious.
A resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated:
“Since the incident happened, we haven’t seen the woman. She left early in the morning with her baby while abandoning these ones here. We don’t know what they ate that made them to start vomiting.”
Another neighbor added:
“I heard a loud voice at the middle of the night and I told my wife that something is happening in our neighborhood. At a point, we thought it’s church people doing their program that are making the noise. It is early this morning that we saw the son struggling and wrangling in pain and came outside the gate. He was crying for water. A friend provided him with water before he suddenly died. We are suspecting diarrhea, but it’s for autopsy to confirm what killed him.”
Upon being contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ebonyi State Command, Mr. Joshua Ukandu, stated that he was not aware of the incident but promised to mobilize officers to the area to ascertain what happened.

After about an hour, police officers arrived at the scene, accompanied by a man who claimed to be the brother of the woman alleged to have poisoned the man. He stated that his sister was also sick and receiving treatment, although she was already in police custody.
The police have evacuated the two bodies for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The woman in question remains in custody as investigations continue.
This incident adds to a series of similar tragedies in Ebonyi State. In May 2019, four members of a family died from alleged food poisoning in Amaechara village, Afikpo North Local Government Area. Additionally, in 2017, a man committed suicide after allegedly murdering his fiancée in Abakaliki.
