The 2025 Budget Presentation at the National Assembly.

Yesterday, I joined my colleagues at the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The session welcomed the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside other top government officials.

The highlight of the session was the presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill, a N49.7 trillion budget proposal aptly titled “The 2025 Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity.”

The proceedings were presided over by the President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, The Right Honourable Tajudeen Abbas, Ph.D, GCON.

In his address, President Tinubu provided an insightful overview of the proposed budget and reflected on the performance of the 2024 Appropriation Act.

The 2025 Budget is a bold, strategic plan designed to prioritize key sectors of the economy with the following allocations:

N4.91 trillion for Defence and Security
N4.06 trillion for Infrastructure
N3.52 trillion for Education
N2.48 trillion for Health
In line with its constitutional mandate under the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the National Assembly will undertake a thorough and meticulous review of the proposed budget. Through detailed budget defense sessions with sectoral heads, we aim to ensure that the appropriation process aligns with the needs and aspirations of the Nigerian people.

As lawmakers, we remain resolutely committed to safeguarding the interests of all Nigerians and delivering a budget that drives progress, fosters development, and enhances prosperity across the nation.

Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo.
