PDP Forms Shadow House of Assembly in Abia, Appoints Akpulonu as Shadow speaker
PDP: Amah emphasized that the party is repositioning itself with the goal of reclaiming control of Abia State in the 2027 elections. He commended the party’s stakeholders and members for their continued support and urged them to maintain unity as they work toward this objective.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has announced the formation of a Shadow House of Assembly, aimed at promoting accountability in the state’s governance. The announcement was made by the party’s chairman, Abraham Amah, during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia on Tuesday. Amah named Solomon Akpulonu, the member representing Obingwa East State constituency, as the Speaker of the newly formed Shadow House.
Amah further stated that the party would be sending a letter to the Abia State House of Assembly within the next 48 hours to formally notify them of the formation of the Shadow Assembly. He expressed hope that the state’s House of Assembly would comply with the PDP’s initiative as soon as they receive the letter. “In line with democratic principles, we do hope that as soon as the House of Assembly receives our letter, they will comply accordingly immediately,” Amah said.
Additionally, Amah dismissed accusations that the PDP or opposition groups were behind the current security challenges in the state. He also revealed the formation of a reconciliation committee, co-chaired by himself and Peter Aguomba, which will focus on reconciling aggrieved party members and possibly bringing back those who left the PDP after the 2023 elections.
