We don’t need wars in Africa…
Rwanda vs South Africa will be the African version of Russia vs Ukraine – waste of lives and wealth with no results .- Charles Awuzie
The recent tensions between Rwanda and South Africa have sparked concerns about the potential for conflict on African soil. As a Nigerian observer, Charles Awuzie, points out, a war between Rwanda and South Africa would be devastating, with far-reaching consequences for the continent .
Awuzie emphasizes the need for a diplomatic solution, urging Presidents Kagame and Ramaphosa to find a peaceful resolution to their differences. He also suggests that Nigeria and Egypt, as influential African nations, should intervene to de-escalate the crisis.
It’s worth noting that Rwanda and South Africa have a complex history, with tensions simmering beneath the surface. However, as Awuzie argues, resorting to conflict would be catastrophic, leading to a waste of lives and resources.
Instead, Awuzie advocates for Rwanda to reconsider its stance on peacekeeping missions from African militaries. He warns that rejecting African solutions may lead to foreign intervention, which could have far-reaching and unpredictable consequences.
In terms of military might, Awuzie points out that South Africa boasts the 3rd most powerful military in Africa, while Rwanda’s military capabilities are significantly weaker. He cautions against intentionally provoking conflict with any of the “Big Four” African militaries: Egypt, Algeria, South Africa, and Nigeria.
Ultimately, Awuzie’s message is one of peace and diplomacy. He urges President Ramaphosa to maintain a calm and measured approach, focusing on restoring peace to the Democratic Republic of Congo rather than engaging in conflict with Rwanda.

We don’t need wars in Africa…
Rwanda vs South Africa will be the African version of Russia vs Ukraine – waste of lives and wealth with no results.
President Kagame and President Ramaphosa should find a diplomatic solution to this problem.
At this point, Nigeria and Egypt should intervene to de-escalate the crisis.
Rwanda should not discourage peace keeping missions from African militaries. If you reject African soldiers in African conflicts, you will end with an invasive non African foreign troops on African soil.
We need peace in Africa – not wars.
And to South Africans who think their President is weak hence the ‘disrespect’ from Rwanda. Do not make the mistake of throwing your leader under the bus in the time of conflict. President Ramaphosa is not weak. He is the commander in Chief of the 3rd most powerful military in Africa. Rwanda is not in the top 10 militaries in Africa. The top 4 are: Egypt, Algeria, South Africa and Nigeria. They are called the Big Four in Africa.
Intentionally provoking any of the Big Four Militaries to a conflict is evil and should be discouraged. President Ramaphosa should not be moved by President Kagame’s invitation to a fight. He should continue to play the Bigger Brother and focus on restoring peace to DRC.
Lest we forget, Kagame is the most loved president in Africa. Rwandans are emotionally connected to Paul Kagame. They can die for him. That too is power. And most African leaders do not have such power.
