The 3rd Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Annual Memorial Lecture, held on Friday, November 15, 2024, was a profound success. This event, hosted by Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, served as a vibrant platform to celebrate the legacy of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, whose life and ideals continue to inspire generations.
This year’s lecture, delivered by the distinguished Chief Osita Chidoka, OFR, NPOM (Ike-Obosi), former Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development and former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), was both insightful and thought-provoking. Chief Chidoka’s address was a compelling exploration of the relevance of Ojukwu’s principles to contemporary challenges, and we are deeply grateful for his impactful presentation.
Special recognition also goes to Prof. Greg Chukwudi Nwakoby, the immediate past Vice Chancellor of COOU, who initiated this memorial lecture series in 2018. His vision of immortalizing Dim Ojukwu’s ideals through this platform has set a remarkable precedent for the university. Your efforts, Prof. Nwakoby, remain a significant contribution to our shared heritage.
We are profoundly grateful to the former Minister of Information, Dr. Labaran Maku, for his goodwill message and presence. Your support and encouragement enriched the event and underscored the importance of Ojukwu’s legacy in our national discourse.
Our heartfelt appreciation also goes to Iyom Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, the honorable Minister and widow of our hero, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. Your unwavering commitment to sustaining his legacy continues to inspire us all. Thank you for the motivation and support that made this event a success.
We cannot fail to thank His Excellency, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, Governor of Anambra State and Visitor to the University, for gracing the occasion. Your presence reaffirmed the importance of education and your commitment to empowering our institutions. The support your administration has shown, from tackling accreditation challenges to providing Wi-Fi for the university, is deeply appreciated.
This event could not have been successful without the collective effort of everyone who contributed morally and financially. Your unwavering belief in Dim Ojukwu’s ideals and your commitment to advancing the university’s vision inspire us to aim higher. As a gesture of gratitude, we presented plaques of appreciation to some outstanding individuals and invite others to emulate their noble deeds.
As we reflect on the insights shared and the partnerships forged during the lecture, let us be reminded of Ojukwu’s timeless words:
“Empower the youths through higher education and let them solve their problems. Federal Government may not do it alone. The private sector is well equipped to do it better.”
Together, we can build a university worthy of the name Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu—a center of excellence, innovation, and resilience. Let us continue to work hand in hand to make this dream a reality.
Thank you to all who participated in making this year’s memorial lecture a success.
God bless Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University,
God bless Anambra State,
God bless Nigeria.
