Labour Party NWC Refuses to Issue Nomination Forms to Senator Nwoye for April 5th Party Primaries

The political landscape in Anambra State is undergoing a crucial phase, one that will undoubtedly define the future trajectory of governance in the state for years to come. However, what is most surprising and disheartening to many, is the decision recently made by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party (LP).

It is a decision that has left many scratching their heads, asking how this could happen. A decision that seems to go against all political logic, strategy, and the will of the people. The Labour Party, traditionally seen as a force for change and a platform for challenging the status quo, has made a shocking move that is sure to reverberate across Anambra politics and beyond.

The Labour Party, having won two senatorial seats, seven House of Representatives seats, and eight House of Assembly seats in the 2023 elections, should have been poised to capitalize on these gains to consolidate its position as the strongest opposition force in the state. After all, it has a solid base and a growing network of supporters across the state. The expectation was that the LP would continue to challenge the entrenched political powers in Anambra, which have long been dominated by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and other political elites.

However, instead of pushing for an aggressive campaign to unseat Governor Chukwuma Soludo of APGA, the LP NWC has decided to work for his re-election. This is a baffling turn of events that no one, least of all the party’s supporters, saw coming.

In an extraordinary move, the Labour Party’s NWC met just days ago and concluded that it would not sell its nomination forms to Distinguished Senator Tony Okechukwu Nwoye, who had shown a keen interest in contesting the Anambra governorship election scheduled for November 8th. Senator Nwoye, a respected figure in the state, is known for his grassroots support and widespread popularity. Many within the party and the electorate believed that if he were given the opportunity to contest, he would secure the party’s nomination, rally his supporters, and likely have a strong chance of defeating Governor Soludo in the upcoming election.

However, the NWC has decided otherwise. In a move that seems to ignore the political realities on the ground, the Labour Party has chosen to deny Nwoye the opportunity to contest the primaries. This decision has left many in the party and the electorate shocked and disillusioned. It is a move that risks alienating a large section of the party’s supporters who are eager to see a change in leadership in Anambra State.

The NWC’s reasoning behind this decision remains unclear, but there are concerns that the party leadership may have compromised its stance for political expediency. There are fears that the party may be trying to align itself with certain political forces that would benefit from the status quo, rather than pushing for genuine change in the state.

This decision also undermines the hopes of many Anambra residents who were hoping for a genuine alternative to the incumbent governor. With Nwoye sidelined, it appears that the Labour Party has chosen to prioritize political maneuvering over the will of the people, a decision that could come back to haunt the party in the coming months.

The decision by the LP NWC is not only disheartening to the party’s supporters, but it also sends a signal to the people of Anambra State that the Labour Party is no different from the other political parties that have failed them in the past. The residents of Anambra, including the church, the traditionalists, civil servants, traders, and other stakeholders, are all waiting for a change of leadership in the state. The people want to see a government that will prioritize their needs and interests over political power games.

Many are now questioning whether the LP has lost its focus and is no longer in tune with the aspirations of the people. The Labour Party has always prided itself on being the party of the people, but this decision raises doubts about its commitment to delivering change. The people of Anambra State are not looking for more of the same; they are looking for a leader who understands their problems and is willing to fight for their rights. The decision to deny Senator Nwoye the opportunity to run for governor could be seen as a betrayal of the people’s trust and a missed opportunity to bring about meaningful change in the state.

Anambra State has long been dominated by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and for many years, the party has maintained a firm grip on power. However, there is a growing sense of dissatisfaction among the people with the current administration, and many are eager for change. Governor Soludo’s administration has faced criticism on various fronts, with many accusing him of being out of touch with the needs of the people. The decision to work for his re-election, therefore, raises serious questions about the LP’s commitment to challenging the status quo.

It is important to note that the political environment in Anambra State is not as simple as it may seem. The APC, which was expected to be a formidable challenger to APGA, has been severely weakened by the lack of support from the federal government. Since 2017, the presidency has consistently supported APGA’s governorship candidates in the state, undermining the APC’s efforts to build a strong political base. This has left the APC struggling to gain a foothold in the state, and many have argued that the party’s prospects in Anambra are now dim.

The PDP, once a dominant force in the state, has also seen its influence wane significantly. The party’s fortunes were dealt a severe blow in 2013 when former President Goodluck Jonathan abandoned the party’s candidate and threw his support behind APGA. This decision, many argue, marked the beginning of the PDP’s decline in Anambra, and the party has never truly recovered from it.

Given this political landscape, the Labour Party had an opportunity to position itself as the leading opposition force in Anambra State. The party’s impressive performance in the 2023 elections had given it a solid base from which to build. However, by failing to support one of its most popular candidates in the governorship race, the Labour Party has squandered this opportunity.

The stakes for the Labour Party are high. The decision to deny Senator Nwoye the chance to contest the governorship election could have serious consequences for the party in the coming months. Anambra State is at a crossroads, and the people are looking for a candidate who can bring about real change. If the Labour Party does not act quickly, it risks losing the support of a significant portion of the electorate, especially those who are disillusioned with the current administration and are seeking an alternative.

The party has until April 10th to reconsider its decision and give Nwoye the opportunity to contest the primaries. If it fails to do so, it could face a backlash from voters who feel that the party is not listening to their concerns. The people of Anambra are tired of the same old political games, and they want a leader who will stand up for their interests.

The church, the traditional rulers, the civil servants, the traders, and all the various groups in the state are waiting for change. If the Labour Party wants to be a part of that change, it needs to listen to the people and take action accordingly. The upcoming election is a critical moment for the party, and it cannot afford to make any more missteps.

The road ahead for Anambra State is uncertain, but one thing is clear: the people are ready for change. Whether that change comes through the Labour Party, APC, or any other party remains to be seen. What is certain, however, is that the party that brings forward the best candidate, someone who is in tune with the needs of the people and has the ability to unite the state, will emerge victorious in the November 8th election.

The people of Anambra are waiting, and the Labour Party still has a chance to rise to the occasion. But it must act swiftly and decisively if it wants to remain a credible force in the state’s political landscape. If it fails to do so, the consequences could be dire, not just for the party, but for the future of governance in Anambra State.

In conclusion, the decision of the Labour Party NWC to deny Senator Nwoye the opportunity to contest the governorship election is a deeply unfortunate one. It undermines the party’s position as a potential challenger to Governor Soludo and risks alienating a significant portion of the electorate. The party must reassess its approach and ensure that it remains true to its commitment to bring about change in Anambra State. If it does not, it may find itself on the wrong side of history.

This Is Very Unfortunate.
Labour Party is working for the reelection of Prof Soludo.
This is unbelievable.
LP ought to be the strongest opposition party in Anambra state having won two senatorial seats, 7 House of Reps seats and 8 House of Assembly seats.
But with these political gains in 2023, the Labour Party NWC has decided to work for the reelection of the APGA governor.
It is sad, and hard to write down the latest decision of the NWC of the Labour Party.
The National Working Committee of the Labour Party met few days ago and concluded that the party would not sell her nomination forms to Distinguished Senator Tony Okechukwu Nwoye to challenge Prof Soludo on November 8th Anambra state governorship election.
They believed that Senator Nwoye is grassrooted and loved. They also agreed that once Senator Nwoye gets the nomination forms, he would win the party’s primary election and mobilize his structures all over the state to defeat Prof Soludo on November 8th.
Having compromised, the NWC said they would not give Senator Nwoye her nomination forms to contest the party primaries scheduled for April 5th.
Recall that PDP is dead in Anambra state while APC is limping.
APC is limping because the presidency has always supported APGA governorship candidates in Anambra state since 2017.
The presidency would sabotage its own and release necessary logistics to APGA. This has made APC Anambra state look stupid before the voters. The action of the Aso Rock in Anambra governorship elections has destroyed APC Anambra state
We are only hopeful that Tinubu presidency will chart a new course and support its party candidate as we head into November 8th governorship election.
What killed PDP Anambra state was when President Jonathan abandoned the party’s candidate in 2013 and supported APGA.
Since then, PDP Anambra state has not recovered from it.
This is the last chance of APC in Anambra state. If the presidency dare supports Prof Soludo on November 8th, the party will be dead and buried forever in the state.
Labour Party NWC is now misbehaving like PDP and APC national leaderships by denying her best candidate the opportunity to defeat Prof Soludo on November 8th and takeover the state completely.
Reserving her ticket to Dr George Moghalu who has no grassroot presence in the state is as good as asking Prof Soludo to continue till 2030.
Labour Party has between now and April 10th to do the needful or lose the support of over 70% of ndi Anambra who want Prof Soludo out on November 8th.
The church is waiting.
Ndi Onitsha are waiting.
The traditionalists are waiting.
The unhappy civil servants are waiting
The stakeholders in the state are waiting
The traders want change.
Ndi Omambala want someone better.
AIF Media is also waiting.
Whichever party that brings an ideal candidate will be the next governor of Anambra state come November 8th.
We are ready for a change of power come November 8th.
